Mission Statement

Roger Abrantes, Ph.D. The Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors (ACABC) is an international, non-profit professional membership organization whose mission is to promote scientific education in the field of applied companion animal behavior, to encourage the use of humane and non-aversive methods of animal training and behavior modification, and to make available to the general public and the veterinary profession a readily available group of companion animal applied behavior professionals. Members agree to subscribe to the organization's Code of Standards and Ethical Conduct at all times.
Membership is open to anyone who is currently involved or interested in the field of applied companion animal behavior. Professional peer-review certification and credentialing for a companion animal species is available to qualified individuals upon completion of the required theoretical coursework, practical coursework, and a working internship under the direction of a certified member, as set forth by the Association's Board of Professional Certification; demonstrating to the public and the veterinary profession that certified members meet acceptible standards in the field of applied companion animal behavior and practice. Robert DeFranco, CBC In addition, the Association will assist its members with professional growth and public relations through professional credentialing, education, member and professional networking, applied research, advertising and media relations, while maintaining the highest level of professional integrity and the humane treatment of animals.
