Local Seeing Eye Foundation Tania Jackson with K9 Therapy and Training, LLC recently watched a true story on the Lifetime Channel about a nun who started training dogs in prisons for the handicapped in Washington State. As Tania's interest is working with service dogs, she set out to find out if there were any on going projects in Georgia and if not, to start one.
She started out by first tracking down Sister Pauline Quinn from the film and between the two of them managed to set up a meeting between the Department and Corrections together with a local seeing eye foundation. | Tania Jackson, CBC

On March 18, 2002, the Department of Corrections broke ground for the building of 8 kennels. These kennels will be built at the Woman's Correctional facility just south of Downtown Atlanta. The foundation hope to place 6 puppies for 6 prisoners to begin training by the middle of this year. These dogs will be trained until they are approximately 14 months old, when they are then sent to the training facility in Florida to begin their formal training as seeing-eye dogs. |
